If you missed today’s meeting, here’s a recap on what you missed out on.
I. Introduction
PUSO:
Milpitas High’s P.U.S.O is a Filipino club in which current students of Milpitas High can join. P.U.S.O stands for Pilipino United Student Organization and means “heart” in Tagalog. The purpose of P.U.S.O is to provide knowledge of the Filipino history and culture, to enhance the foundation of students of all cultural backgrounds, and to engage in fun and friendly related activities. In hopes of creating a strong bond with one another throughout the whole school year. This club is a great way to learn about the Filipino culture and unite with other students who have the same interest of the Filipino culture. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE FILIPINO TO JOIN, anyone and everyone is welcomed. Meetings will be held every week on Wednesdays during lunch in L35.

II. Club Expectations
Membership:
This years club fee is $5. Compared to other clubs fees, it’s pretty cheap so we only ask for $5. This fee will help benefit the club and yourself as a member for lower prices, discounts and etc.
Attendance:
In order to guarantee you’re an “active” member, you need to come to most of our meetings.
III. Events
Battle of the Tribes:
Every year FYC (Filipino Youth Coalition) hosts their annual Battle of the Tribes which is an event where about 8 schools come together to compete in a series of games and skits/dance. It’s basically like Trojan Olympics, Battle of the Classes, and Fantastics but it’s more epic because instead of classes battling, it’s 8 different high schools. (Ex. Milpitas, Mt. Pleasant, Evergreen, Silver Creek, Wilcox, Santa Clara, Piedmont, Independence, Overfelt, and more.) This year it will be held at Evergreen Valley High School and this year’s event MAY BE POSSIBLY split into two having Games in January and Skits/Dance in May.
PCN:
It’s been awhile, but we will be having our first PCN (Pilipino Cultural Night) this year on Saturday January 22. Our PCN will be a night filled with traditional dances, martial arts, fashion show, and much more. We also have in plan a special performer or performers that will come and perform as well. More info will be presented during our next meetings.
Cultural Heritage:
During Cultural Heritage week PUSO will be performing at lunch on stage. Like last year, we will be having workshops where you can learn some of the traditional dances and can perform during Cultural Heritage.
Mixers:
We are hoping to have a mixer this year, possibly at the end of the year in substitute that our school NO LONGER has an end of the year dance.
Community Service:
We will be having more community service opportunities. We’ll keep you posted but as for Seniors, if you haven’t completed your hours yet then this will be a great deal for you!
IV. FYC
Tuesday Night Activities:
Held every Tuesdays from 6-8pm at Welch Park in San Jose. Every week varies from workshops of Filipino culture, Filipino history, how teenagers are today, etc. High school students from all around come through along with some college students and younger ones. It’s a great way to learn more about the Filipino culture and a great way to meet other high school students. You do not necessarily have to be Filipino to come, anyone and everyone is welcome. If you are interested and want to go and possibly need a ride, contact our officers and will help you out.
V. Graduation Stoles
Requirements:
You must be an official member of PUSO (look at our expectations) AND you have to be able to attend at least 3 of our club’s meetings and be able to attend or participate in ALL our major events. So far this is how we’re charging for stoles.
Active Member 3 years - FREE
Active Member 2 years - 50% off

*This may change throughout the year, but most likely not.
